Industries directed to prevent water stagnation, mosquito breeding

The Department of Industrial Safety and Health has directed industrial units to take precautionary measures to prevent dengue, particularly by eliminating mosquito-breeding sources on their premises.

In a release, Joint Director of Industrial Safety and Health S. Anitha Rosaline Mary asked the units to prevent water stagnation in tyres, drums, tins and other materials, and keep water storage containers tightly closed.

Industries were also advised to regularly clean water tanks and sumps and ensure that their premises were clean. They should identify mosquito-breeding sources and take immediate measures to eliminate them, the release said. Awareness should be spread among workers on dengue prevention. Workers who develop fever or other symptoms should be taken to the nearest hospital without delay, she said.
