Leading industrialists from the State welcomed the Union Budget 2026–27 and expressed satisfaction with its emphasis on infrastructure development, clean energy transition, and the adoption of advanced technologies. They anticipated that these measures would significantly empower public sector enterprises to serve as key drivers of India’s long-term energy and climate objectives.
Janmejaya Mahapatra, CEO of Nellore-based independent power producer SEIL Energy India Ltd., said, “The Budget presents several forward-looking measures for the energy sector. The emphasis on operationalisation of inland waterways in mineral-rich areas is expected to improve coal logistics by reducing transportation costs and enhancing operational efficiency for the power industry.”
“The extension of Basic Customs Duty (BCD) exemption on nuclear power components until 2035 is a progressive step that will encourage greater participation of private players, strengthening India’s clean energy transition and long-term energy security,” he said, adding that the extension of tax holidays for data centres until 2047 is likely to drive incremental power demand.
Jayadev Galla, Chairman and Managing Director of Tirupati-based Amara Raja Energy and Mobility Limited said, “Overall, the Budget is balanced and focused on long-term growth. The sustained focus on infrastructure, especially logistics, freight corridors and inland waterways, is critical for manufacturers as it directly lowers transportation costs and improves supply chain reliability.”
“We welcome the focused support for domestic lithium-ion cell manufacturing, energy storage, and critical minerals, which are essential for reducing import dependence. The Budget strengthens confidence for manufacturers investing in advanced technologies and positions India well to emerge as a global hub for sustainable and future-ready manufacturing,” he added.
Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director of Neyveli-headquartered (Tamil Nadu) central public sector enterprise NLC India Limited, said, “The Budget reinforces the Government of India’s sustained commitment to strengthening the energy sector, with a clear emphasis on energy security, sustainability and self-reliance.”
He further said, “The continued policy thrust on renewable energy expansion, transmission and distribution reforms, energy storage solutions, and enhanced domestic coal and lignite production reflects a balanced and pragmatic approach to meeting the nation’s growing power demand. We are committed to support India’s vision of providing affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for all.”
Appreciating the Budget, Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy said that the development of urban infrastructure will strengthen cities like Tirupati, Chittoor, Nellore, and Visakhapatnam. It is providing new growth opportunities for Andhra Pradesh and it is with the long-term goal of achieving “Viksit Bharat”, he said.
