About 30 women were admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Tiruchi on Wednesday after reportedly falling ill following lunch at a women’s hostel in Cantonment police limits.
According to sources, several residents of the hostel complained of vomiting and uneasiness after consuming food served at the hostel in the afternoon.
Hospital sources said the condition of those admitted was stable.
Police officials said the exact cause of the illness was yet to be ascertained. “It is not yet clear whether the symptoms were due to food contamination or any other reason. An inquiry is under way,” a police official said.
Food Safety officials inspected the hostel and collected water and food samples from the kitchen.
