The 81st anniversary celebrations of the Tamilnadu Foodgrains Merchants Association (TFMA) commenced on Wednesday with the inauguration of the “TFMA Trade Fair 2025” at Tamukkam Grounds in Madurai.
Madurai Corporation Commissioner Chithra Vijayan declared the fair open along with Chief guests V. R. Muthu, Chairman, Idhayam group and P. Jebanath Julius, Regional Manager, Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank (TMB), Madurai.
At the event, Mr. Muthu said the TFMA Trade Fair 2025–2026 had begun ‘grandly’ and recalled that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had attended the association’s 81st anniversary, reflecting its strength and influence on GST and trade issues.
Stressing that ‘business begins and ends with marketing’, he said exhibitions like this provided an ideal platform to launch new products, revive older brands and underline that quality ensures half the marketing effort.
Mr. Julius said TMB was proud of its long-standing bond with TFMA and had set up a stall to offer credit assistance and various loan products to merchants and visitors. He urged traders to make use of the bank’s services and wished the fair a wide public reach and success.
The fair featured around 280 stalls showcasing consumer goods (mattresses, furniture, household items, electronics, toys), food & beverages (aerated drinks, ghee, eateries, bakeries, Idhayam oils), and services (finance, banks, chits, hospital, wellness, massage, solar distributors, tour agencies, real estate). Other categories included fashion & accessories (garments, textiles, gold/diamond jewellery), home and safety (CCTV, eco-friendly plastics, sanitary products), and retail (books, diaries).
More than 20 established brands, licensed businesses, financial institutions and local traders have opened stalls, with free entry and daily lucky draws for visitors from December 31 to January 4.
The event was organised and presided over by TFMA Chairman A. S. V. A. Madhavan, with TFMA Co-ordinator S. P. Jayaprakasam and Tamil Nadu Food Traders’ Executives Chairman S. V. S. S. Velshankar, among others were present during the event.
