Little “Jeni” is the latest entrant to Perambalur Police Detective Dog Squad. The one-year and two-month-old female Labrador Retriever will be used to detect explosive substances.

‘Jeni’ was formally inducted into the Detective Dog Squad of the Perambalur Police on Monday after undergoing six-month long training in sniffing explosive substances at the Detective Dog Training Centre of the Tamil Nadu Police in Coimbatore.

Police sources said Jeni was trained in “ground search”, “vehicle search”, “building search” and “human search” to detect explosive substances in each one of these categories. It underwent training in obedience at the training centre.  Having successfully completed its training schedule, Jeni will now be utilised in missions to detect explosive substances and during VVIP visits, the sources said.

A report was submitted to the Perambalur District Superintendent of Police G.S. Anitha at the District Police Office here on Tuesday regarding completion of training for Jeni and it was inducted into the squad for carrying out anti-sabotage missions. S.P. Anitha handed over a van given by the State government exclusively for the Detective Dog Squad. “Jeni” will be taken care of by two handlers.

The Detective Dog Squad of Perambalur Police already has ‘Sakthi’ a five-and-half-year-old female German Shepherd which is being engaged for detecting explosive substances and “Bairava”, a six-year-old male Doberman for crime detection, the sources said.
