Following complaints of irregularities, the Kadayanallur municipality has cancelled the online tender for supplying breakfast to the students of government and government-aided middle schools under the ‘Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme’.

In a statement, Commissioner of Kadayanallur municipality Sonia announced on Monday that the online tenders received on August 14 for supplying the breakfast to the government and government-aided middle school children had been cancelled. The date for floating fresh tenders would be notified later, the statement said.

Sources in the Kadayanallur municipality said the ₹1.74 crore tender for supplying breakfast for three years for 2,900 students of government and government-aided middle schools was floated while the actual number stands at 2,183. Only after this mismatch became a debatable subject on social media, the municipality cancelled the tender, the sources said.

The sources also revealed that the benamis of senior public representatives in Puliyangudi and Kadayanallur municipalities had earlier bagged this contract under the DMK rule for supplying the breakfast. Complaints pertaining to quality of the breakfast flooded the Puliyangudi and Kadayanallur municipalities and Minister for Environment and Climate Change V. K. Rajeev, who is also in-charge of Tenkasi district.

“When this mismatch was also highlighted in the complaints, the Kadayanallur municipality has cancelled the online tender, thanks to the timely intervention of the Commissioner,” the sources added.
