Former Speaker Therambil Ramakrishnan has said that the late Chief Minister K. Karunakaran was a strong leader who shaped modern Kerala and strengthened the Congress with discipline and foresight.
“K. Karunakaran was a ruler who guided the State towards progress with long-term vision,“ Mr. Ramakrishnan said. He was speaking at an event in connection with 15th death anniversary of Karunakaran, after paying floral tributes at his memorial at Murali Mandiram, Punkunnam, on Tuesday.
Mr. Ramakrishnan said Karunakaran implemented countless projects that enabled Kerala to stand tall before the world. He demonstrated that governance need not be surrendered to bureaucracy, but could be driven by strong political will. Fearless in the face of criticism, Karunakaran led the State with clarity of purpose and direction. The vigilance and discipline he maintained in nurturing the Congress party in Kerala, Mr. Ramakrishnan added, remained lessons for today’s leaders and the younger generation.
District Congress Committee president Joseph Tajet presided over the function. In his address, he described Karunakaran as a leader endowed with an extraordinary ability and political acumen to turn even adversaries and challenges to his advantage.
