UDF workers celebrate the victory of their candidate V.P. Sajeendran in Kunnathunadu Assembly constituency on Monday.
Notwithstanding an intense three-cornered contest, V.P. Sajeendran wrested back the Scheduled Caste–reserved constituency of Kunnathunadu for the United Democratic Front (UDF), securing an impressive victory for his third term as legislator.
In a constituency known for narrow margins, Mr. Sajeendran defeated the CPI(M)’s sitting MLA P.V. Sreenijin by a record margin of 21,283 votes. The two polled 70,292 and 49,009 votes respectively, while Twenty20 candidate Babu Divakaran also put up a stiff fight with 40,221 votes.
