Keralam Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Thursday said the government had allocated over ₹600 crore as additional funds for Karunya health schemes to clear pending claims.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, an additional ₹307.10 crore was sanctioned for settling claims under the Karunya Arogya Suraksha Padhathi (KASP), while ₹293.62 crore was allocated to the Karunya Benevolent Fund (KBF).

The additional allocation is over and above the ₹592 crore budgetary provision for KASP, the statement said.

The additional funds were sanctioned to clear pending claims from the previous government’s tenure and restore the schemes to normal functioning, Mr. Satheesan said.

Both KASP and KBF are major health-care assistance schemes of the Keralam government aimed at providing financial support for medical treatment to economically weaker sections of society.
