Special rebate sales for Deepavali began at Khadi Kraft retail outlets in Tiruchi on Friday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments S. Ramesh inaugurated the sale at an outlet near Tiruchi Railway Junction, after paying floral tributes to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi. Collector Pratik Tayal, Corporation Commissioner N. Ponmani, and senior officials participated.

According to a press release, a sales target of ₹2 crore had been set for this year. The Deepavali special sale of khadi, dhotis, shirts, towels, bedsheets, pillows, pillow covers, mattresses, silk saris, and other products would entail substantial discount. While 30% discount will be given to silk saris and other khadi products, woollen products will be sold at 20% discount.

Mr. Ramesh said the outlets had quality honey, soaps, detergents, and incense sticks. Products such as traditional rice varieties and cold pressed oil were available at the outlets. The people, including government staff, employees of private institutions, and Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, should support khadi products, he said.

Earlier, the Minister and the Collector garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi near the Head Post Office.
