Farmers from the Krishna delta area, led by Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu, felicitated Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat on Saturday for initiating the Pattiseema project ahead of the completion of the Polavaram project, thereby enabling the diversion of the Godavari floodwaters to the Krishna basin and creating wealth for the State.
They praised the Chief Minister for ensuring water security for Andhra Pradesh by successfully diverting 500 tmc ft of water to the Krishna delta over the last 11 years.
On the occasion, the farmers said that diverting Godavari floodwaters to the Krishna basin and conserving Krishna river water for use in Rayalaseema opened up new avenues for meeting the State’s irrigation and drinking water requirements.
Mr. Naidu said the Pattiseema project had not only addressed the hardships faced by the farmers in the region but also helped in creating wealth.
Diversion of the Godavari floodwaters to the Krishna delta helped meet irrigation requirements, while enabling the State to conserve Krishna water in the Srisailam reservoir and divert it to the parched Rayalaseema region, the Chief Minister explained.
Mr. Naidu asserted that availability of water through Pattiseema enabled farmers in the Krishna delta to cultivate crops abundantly.
Further, the Chief Minister said the success achieved through Pattiseema gave him immense satisfaction and it was due to the cooperation extended by the farmers. He stated that improved water availability facilitated water supply to industries such as Kia in Rayalaseema and integrated water management played a crucial role not only in resolving irrigation problems but also in ensuring water security for industrial development.
