The Elephant Gate police arrested the manager of a parcel company with regard to the theft of gold and silver jewellery, which were to be sent in parcels, in Sowcarpet on Saturday.

Police said that Parveen Kumar Saini was a resident of Sowcarpet and was operating a logistics company. He had collected gold and silver jewellery from five jewellery making shops in sealed envelopes to be sent to two gold showrooms in Bengaluru on December 25. Accordingly, he had booked the items, which were worth nearly ₹90 lakh, to be sent through a courier and parcel service company located in Kandappan Street of Sowcarpet. However, the parcels were not delivered to the intended showrooms. When Saini approached Ranjit Kumar, the manager of the courier company, he tried to evade stating that the parcels have been delayed.

Based on a complaint filed at the Elephant Gate police station, the police detained Ranjit Kumar and are investigating about the alleged theft of gold and silver jewellery.
