This edition of Madurai Market rings in the festive spirit with luxurious delicacies and creative workshops that have been customized to bring in the Christmas cheer.
Last time, this pop-up two-day event in the city saw over 1,500 visitors. This year Abigail Samuel and Rishwanth co-founders of this unique concept, are expecting more visitors as there is an eclectic mix of handmade crafts, festive décor, seasonal gifts, and artisanal treasures on display.
With the background music subtlety playing and enhancing the vibrant atmosphere, visitors can browse through exquisite Kota silk sarees, premium stationery from Coimbatore, elegant silver jewelry, and charming handmade décor crafted by skilled artisans among many more.
For the third time, Sneha Jain is conducting a workshop here and is focusing on Christmas-themed artwork for children. “Though I have conducted many workshops, I have always enjoyed taking part in the Madurai Market because of the positive response I get from the participants. This event has also provided me with a venue and an infrastructure through which I am getting a lot of inquiries about conducting workshops online,” says Ms Sneha, who has recently shifted to Karnataka.
This platform has helped Preethi Meena establish her brand name Preartcrafts. She has been participating since 2022, and says that her workshops here have seen a steady stream of participants, and it has helped increase her followers on Instagram, leading to more queries and good business.
Patissier Rowena from Yercaud is participating for the first time in Madurai Market with her decadent confectionaries. “I visited the last event as a guest and seeing the variety of stalls that had something for everybody and the cosy atmosphere that prevailed with the perfect crowd participating, I was ready to join this edition. I have been couriering my premium desserts to clients down south, and I am sure that this exposure here will help me gain more clientele,” she adds.
For people like Yazhini Devi of Patterns, a tailoring and customization boutique, a space like this helps expand her customer base.
With niche products on display, visitors to Madurai Market are spoiled for choice. Revathi, who was having a look at the silver filigree stall, said this event helps as her children are also kept engaged at the various workshops.
“Across six editions, we’ve learned a lot. We are continually striving to offer an even better experience for our vendors and for the people of Madurai,” says Ms Abigail.
For residents of Madurai and for those brands that want to step out of the anonymity provided by virtual space and interact with customers face-to-face to showcase their products and make lasting connections, then Madurai Market is a must-visit.
The flexibility that this pop-up space provides can help the vendors in brand building, testing of new products, and also getting an immediate feedback.
Madurai Market is open on Sunday (December 14) from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at JC Residency and the entry is free.
