Need coordinated plan

While it is agreed that not only the Madurai Corporation but all stakeholders must work together for the city’s development, as stated by Commissioner, one cannot ignore the long-pending civic issues, particularly the desilting and cleaning of the many channels and setting up recycling plants for solid and liquid waste, despite repeated assurances.

We see sanitary workers still handling waste bins manually. Similarly, the much-promised cleaning of the Vaigai river remains only on paper, as industrial effluents, sewage and garbage from settlements along the banks continue to pollute the river.

Instead of merely announcing schemes, authorities must evolve a coordinated and practical action to prevent further deterioration of the city’s civic health.

Uneven roads

The stretch of road from Aravind Hospital to Anna Bus Stand is riddled with potholes, causing severe inconvenience to patients visiting the hospital, especially those coming from Kerala and nearby districts.

Local commuters also face difficulties navigating this uneven road. Considering the importance of this route, I urge the authorities to take immediate action to repair and maintain it for safe and smooth travel.
