Observe I-Day

It is heartening that Corporation schools in Madurai hoisted the national flag and ensured students’ participation in Independence Day celebrations. In contrast, some matriculation schools reportedly neither hoisted the flag nor encouraged students to participate in the celebrations.

The school education department authorities should ensure that schools appropriately observe Independence Day and enable students to understand the significance of the historic occasion.

Welcome move

The news report on stringent action being taken against defaulters for non-remittance of property tax and subsequent action to seal the property by the authorities of Corporation of Madurai is a bold move. The authorities should also take similar action against hospitals, roadside eateries amongst others which dumped their waste without adhering to norms.

Obscene songs

Of late, many of the private mofussil buses and mini-buses are playing obscene songs with high decibels. The buses from the integrated bus stand in Mattuthavani towards Karaikudi, Aruppukottai, Virudhunagar are highly notorious for such an act.

Will the Transport department officials, who check for air horns, take action against the bus operators for playing obscene songs in public transport system and stop the menace?
