Suraram police with the accused along with the mobile phone and ₹6.73 lakh in cash

A 34-year-old man was arrested by the Suraram police for stealing a mobile phone from a patient in a hospital and fraudulently transferring nearly ₹8 lakh through UPI transactions. The arrest followed an investigation into a theft reported at Narayana Mallareddy Hospital in January 2025.
The accused was identified as Boorada Adi Narayana, a resident of Kowdipalli village in Medak district.
According to the police, the accused stole mobile phone of one Praveen Kumar, who was undergoing treatment at the hospital, in the early hours of January 7. He then accessed the victim’s banking applications and transferred about ₹8 lakh to various accounts. Based on a complaint, Suraram police registered a case and analysed CCTV footage and bank transaction records to trace the suspect.
Police recovered the stolen mobile phone and ₹6.73 lakh in cash from him, with the total value of recovered property estimated at around ₹7 lakh. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody and further legal proceedings are underway.
Police have advised the public to remain cautious with their belongings in hospitals and crowded places and to secure mobile phones and banking applications with strong security locks.
