A 37-year-old man with a criminal background was allegedly beaten to death in Nerkundram by a rival group in connection with a dispute over withdrawing a murder case registered based on a complaint given by the victim.
The deceased has been identified as Sathish, 37, a resident of Chennai. Police records reportedly showed that he was facing cases, including murder, robbery and theft. In 2022, he was allegedly attacked and seriously injured by a gang.
Following the incident, police registered a case and arrested six persons including Dinesh and Suresh. Later, the arrested men came out on bail and attended court proceedings. Police sources said the accused later approached Sathish and held talks with him to withdraw the case against them. Satish allegedly demanded ₹6 lakh to withdraw the case.
A dispute reportedly arose between the two groups at Sathish’s house on Thursday over the demand. Sathish was allegedly attacked by them using wooden logs and stones, and he died on the spot.
Police arrested four suspects and launched a hunt to nab two more suspects.
