A 33-year-old man died of electrocution while trying to save a pet parrot that had flown onto a high-tension electricity pole inside a residential apartment complex in Girinagar on Friday.
The victim, identified as Arun Kumar, a native of Nagamangala in Mandya district, had come to visit his relatives who reside in the apartment building when the tragic incident occurred.
According to the police, the mishap occurred around 9.30 a.m. when the pet parrot escaped from the house and settled on a high-tension pole within the premises. āIn an effort to retrieve the bird, Arun tied a stick to an iron pipe and climbed onto a wall to reach it. While attempting the rescue, he accidentally came into contact with a live electricity wire. The shock caused him to collapse instantly, and he died at the scene,ā a police official said.
The Girinagar police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the incident. Officials from the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) also inspected the spot.
