A 38-year-old man, Poornachandran of Narimedu here, ended his life inside a police outpost near Ambedkar statue on Azhagarkoil Road on Thursday.
Police said Poornachandran, who had come in an autorickshaw, suddenly stopped in front of the police outpost and entered it. There were no police personnel there at that time, and he reportedly ended his life after recording an audio on his mobile phone.
Some passersby spotted him and called the police control room at ‘100’. Tallakulam police, who reached the spot, sent the body to Government Rajaji Hospital for a postmortem.
Meanwhile, the audio clip, purportedly recovered from the victim, which went viral on social media, revealed that he had appealed to authorities to ensure that the lamp was lit on Thirupparankundram Deepathoon during Karthigai festival at least next year. A senior police officer said the victim was an MBA degree-holder and was working as a medical representative, and driving an autorickshaw on the side to earn money to run his family. Further investigation is on.
