A 55-year-old auto driver was allegedly stabbed to death and his son seriously injured inside their home after they confronted a youth over the alleged harassment of the man’s daughter at Bagh-e-Jahara in Madannapet on Thursday evening.
The victim, Mohd Hasmath Ali Khan, had reportedly questioned Habeeb Mohammad, aged around 27, and warned him against allegedly harassing his daughter. Police said the confrontation turned violent when Habeeb allegedly attacked Hasmath with a knife at his house, killing him at the spot. When Hasmath’s son Omar attempted to intervene, he too was allegedly attacked and sustained serious injuries.
Omar was rushed to a private hospital for treatment. Madannapet police reached the scene after being alerted and registered a case. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the locality to establish the sequence of events and trace the suspect.
Thursday’s killing comes amid a string of murders reported in Hyderabad during September, several of which have involved knives or sickles, although the motives have been varied.
