Mangalore Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha urged people to give up arrogance and hatred and live with concern for others.
Speaking at the Christmas celebrations of Alva’s Education Foundation in Vidyagiri in Moodbidri on Friday, Mr. Saldanha said Jesus Christ illuminated the world with values, namely love, service, and compassion. Every religion was upholding love and ethics and none stood outside these principles. Jesus showed humanity the true path by challenging inhuman practices such as untouchability, superstition, human sacrifice, and social discrimination
Christmas was not confined to one religion but symbolised humanity and peace. Mahatma Gandhi drew inspiration from Jesus’ message of non-violence and humanism, he said.
Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation Mohan Alva also spoke. Retired senior priest of St. Juz Vaz Home, Francis Xavier Gomes, was felicitated.
More than 500 students participated in carol singing in Tulu, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, and Hindi. Students were dressed as angels and Santa Claus. Giridhar troupe led the choir, said a release of Alvas Education Foundation.
