Relatives of a woman from Vadakara, who died reportedly due to the complications resulting from a uterus removal surgery at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, have accused the hospital authorities of medical negligence.

Thankamani, 49, was admitted to the hospital on October 5, and the surgery was performed at the Institute of Maternal and Child Health attached to the hospital three days later. She was shifted to the ward on October 9. However, she developed a fever and started vomiting blood the next day, the relatives claimed.

A scanning procedure reportedly revealed an injury in the intestine. Though another surgery was performed on October 11, her condition reportedly deteriorated, and she died on Monday (October 12).

Based on a complaint filed by the relatives, the Medical College police have filed a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The hospital authorities have also launched an internal inquiry.
