The State government on Wednesday launched a three-day training programme on the preparation of Gram Panchayat Sustainable Action Plan (GP SAP), with representatives from 1,478 Gram Panchayats across 72 mandals participating on the first day.

Sarpanches, panchayat secretaries, officials of the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department, and engineering staff attended the training sessions being conducted under the supervision of Additional District Collectors (Local Bodies) in the respective districts.

Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka inaugurated the training programme in Mahabubabad district headquarters.

Addressing the participants, Ms. Seethakka said comprehensive village development plans should look beyond construction activities and take into account the needs of villagers, future requirements, conservation of natural resources, employment generation, infrastructure development, women’s empowerment and social progress. She urged the participants to prepare development plans after identifying local priorities, assessing funding requirements and incorporating people’s views.

Calling upon sarpanches and officials to implement the lessons learnt during the training at the grassroots level, she stressed the need for transparent governance to retain public confidence. The Minister said that village development should be viewed as a collective movement involving both the government and the people. MP P. Balram Naik, PR & RD Commissioner Divya Devarajan and others were present.
