Minister distributes social security scheme orders to 2,000 beneficiaries in Madurai

Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration P. Moorthy distributed orders for social security scheme benefits to 2,000 beneficiaries under the Ungaludan Stalin programme here on Wednesday.

Speaking at the function, he said, “During today’s event, welfare assistance worth ₹4.67 crore is to be provided to a total of 2,112 beneficiaries, including pensions worth ₹2.89 crore for 2,000 beneficiaries on behalf of the Revenue Department; monthly entitlement amounts worth ₹4.40 lakh for 55 beneficiaries on behalf of the Social Welfare and Women’s Rights Department.”

Additionally, he said, ₹2 lakh worth of aid for two beneficiaries on behalf of the Horticulture Department; ₹40.04 lakh worth of aid for 35 beneficiaries through the District Welfare Department for the differently abled; ₹4 lakh worth of aid for four beneficiaries through the Agricultural Engineering Department and ₹1.27 crore worth of aid for 16 beneficiaries through the Cooperative Department, were given.

With the objective that the community of women in Tamil Nadu must progress, revolutionary schemes such as the Vidiyal Payanam scheme, Kalaignar Magalir Urimai scheme, Pudhumai Penn scheme, schemes to make women entrepreneurs, and Women’s Self-Help Groups were implemented in the State, he stated.

“Through these, women are attaining rights equal to men and progressing step-by-step. Free travel is provided for women under the Vidiyal Payanam scheme, which strengthens the link in the economic chain and bolsters the unhindered freedom of travel for women,” Mr. Moorthy noted.

District Collector K. J. Praveen Kumar said, under the Ungaludan Stalin scheme, a total of 347 special camps have been conducted in Madurai district. “In these camps, 43 services were provided through 13 departments in urban areas, and 46 services were provided through 15 departments in rural areas. In the camps conducted in Madurai district, 98,035 grievance petitions have been received so far to obtain various government department services. Out of the petitions received, 79,974 were resolved immediately and welfare assistance was provided.,” he added.

Further, he pointed out that under the Social Security Scheme in Madurai district, monthly pensions were provided to a total of 1,47,635 beneficiaries at a value of ₹2.89 crore rupees, covering the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension, Widow Pension, Differently Abled Pension, Destitute/Deserted Wives Pension, and Unmarried Women Pension.

The number of beneficiaries covered under various scheme: 23,109 beneficiaries in Madurai North circle, 12,231 in Vadipatti circle, 14,703 in Madurai West circle, 11,798 in Madurai South circle, 9,900 in Melur circle, 8,689 in Madurai East circle, 11,721 in Thirumangalam circle, 9,248 in Thirupparankundram circle, 6,647 in Kallikudi circle, 18,464 in Usilampatti circle, and 21,125 in Peraiyur circle.

Through the Kalaignar Kaivinai Thittam, training in making handicrafts were provided to offer employment opportunities to the youth. Upon completion of this training, loan assistance to start a business at a subsidised rate would also be provided through the District Industries Centre, Mr. Praveen Kumar noted.
