Ministers inspect medical camp in Salem

Tourism Minister R. Rajendran participated in the golden jubilee celebrations of the Horticulture Research Station (HRS) in Yercaud on Saturday. Likewise, the Tourism Minister and Health Minister Ma. Subramanian inspected the medical camp conducted under the Nalam Kaakkum Stalin scheme.

Mr. Rajendran inaugurated the exhibition stalls set up at the HRS on behalf of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and visited the stalls.

At the function, Mr. Rajendran said Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is implementing various schemes for the economic development of farmers. In particular, a separate budget for agriculture is being presented for every year. The Yercaud region, located in the Eastern Ghats, is a popular tourist destination. Coffee plantations, pepper plants, aromatic crops, herbal crops, and mountain vegetables are cultivated in the hills. In particular, the cash crops grown here, such as coffee and pepper, are famous across the globe.

The Horticultural Research Station, which operates under Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, created many entrepreneurs through its upgraded pepper cultivation and fruit tree techniques. It also improved the livelihood of farmers.

“We should plant more trees to face the climate change issues, use very little pesticides to protect soil and water resources and preserve the environment,” the Minister added. The Minister distributed welfare assistance to the beneficiaries.

In the evening, Mr. Rajendran and Mr. Subramanian inspected the special medical camp conducted under the Nalam Kaakkum Stalin scheme at Kannankurichi Government Higher School and interacted with the people who came to the camp.

Mr. Subramanian said that through this scheme, 683 camps were conducted across Tamil Nadu and a total of 11.23 lakh people benefited, and in Salem district alone 31,127 people benefited. Likewise, through these camps, 41,324 beneficiaries received differently abled medical certificates and 32,514 people registered in the Chief Minister Comprehensive Medical Insurance Scheme, Mr. Subramanian added.
