A minor girl was allegedly raped at a hotel in north Delhi’s Wazirabad area after she went to meet a man she had befriended on Instagram.
The Wazirabad police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and launched an investigation. The accused, who is also a resident of the Wazirabad area, has been absconding.
According to a North district police official, the girl left her home without informing her family to meet the man she had become acquainted with through Instagram.
According to the girls statement, the accused allegedly took the girl to a hotel in the Wazirabad police station area on the pretext of meeting her as a friend, where he allegedly raped her, police said.
The girl returned home after the incident and told her family about the alleged assault. Her family subsequently approached the police, following which she was medically examined and her statement was recorded.
Investigators are examining the hotel’s guest register, CCTV footage and other records to identify and trace the accused. Police are also probing the circumstances under which the minor was allowed to enter the hotel and whether any verification was carried out by the hotel staff.
Efforts are under way to trace the accused.
