In a bid to improve the overall SSLC performance in Mandya district, local authorities launched a unique initiative to ensure that every student secures a minimum of 40 marks.

The campaign, titled ‘Mission 40 for 90 Days’, was launched earlier this month and will run until the examination to be held in March. Mandya Zilla Panchayat CEO K.R. Nandini reviewed its progress and held discussions with the Education Department staff on December 24 to fine-tune the campaign and ensure better outcomes.

Ms. Nandini said all high schools in the district had been instructed to conduct practice tests aimed at making SSLC students achieve 40 marks, on December 18, 19, and 20. ‘’Based on these tests, special attention and remedial classes have been advised for 5,221 students who scored less than 50%,’’ she said.

Feedback on the initiative revealed that many students could not practice as much as they would have liked to owing to the shortage of notebooks.

Hence, it was decided to procure and distribute notebooks to schools under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. “Some organisations have already been approached to support notebook distribution through their CSR allocations,” the Zilla Panchayat CEO noted.

Meanwhile, a monitoring committee comprising officials from various departments will be formed to oversee the progress of the campaign.

Gram panchayats have also been directed to provide necessary support to schools within their jurisdiction to shore up the results.

Ms. Nandini said special awards will be given to nodal officers, block education officers (BEOs), and headmasters of schools that achieve good results in the SSLC examinations.

Performances flagged (B/CAPS)

In the review meeting, the performances of schools in K.R. Pet, Pandavpura, and Srirangapatana taluks came under scrutiny as the number of students in these taluks who had scored below 50% was high. The officials and BEOs concerned were instructed to pay special attention to these taluks. However, students in Mandya North and South zones had fared well and the officials were therefore directed to ensure that their scores breached the 90% mark.

The CEO also instructed officials to credit the pending gratuity amount to 217 retired cooking staff who served under the Midday Meal Scheme in government and aided schools in the district. The payment has to be made on January 1, 2026.

G. Lokesh, deputy director of the Education Department, Yogesh, principal, DIET, various BEOs, and nodal officers were present.
