DGP C.V. Anand and DG (Law and Order) Mahesh Bhagwat monitored the processions via CCTV cameras.
More than 88,000 Ganesh idols were immersed in the city by Friday evening, as police personnel worked overnight to complete the exercise by Saturday morning.
Director General of Police C.V. Anand, while addressing a press conference on Friday, said that the immersion process was nearly complete in most districts. In Hyderabad, efforts were under way to conclude the exercise by around 10.30 a.m. on Saturday, while it could take longer in Nalgonda and Nirmal.
Mr. Anand estimated that the actual number of idols across Telangana could be between 3.5 lakh and 4 lakh, if those installed in apartments, houses and other private premises, were included.
In Hyderabad, the processions began slightly later in the afternoon. Movement from Rajendranagar and Shamshabad took longer because of the larger geographical spread of the areas.
More than 25,000 police personnel have been deployed in Hyderabad over the last 10 days. Personnel from the Telangana Special Police, Rapid Action Force, NDRF and OCTOPUS were also deployed, while five additional companies from the DGP Reserve were kept on standby.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar inspected the main procession routes on a motorcycle, covering M.J. Market, Basheerbagh and Liberty, and instructed personnel to ensure the procession moved peacefully.
