Stanford University researcher gets SASTRA-Ramanujan Award 2026

Sarah Peluse, associate professor of mathematics, Stanford University, U.S., has bagged the SASTRA-Ramanujan Award 2026.

Prof. Peluse has been selected for the award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field of analytic number theory, additive combinatorics, combinatorial geometry, and group theory have created several breakthroughs in advanced problems, according to a press release from SASTRA. It is notable that the joint winner of inaugural SASTRA-Ramanujan Award in 2005, Kannan Soundarajan is Sarah’s Ph.D. advisor at Stanford, the release added.

The award, carrying a cash prize of $10,000 and a citation would be presented to Prof. Peluse on December 22, on Srinivasa Ramanujan’s birthday at the SASTRA Campus in Thanjavur. Of the previous 21 awardees, seven went on to win the Fields Medal, the Noble equivalent for Mathematics making the SASTRA-Ramanujan Award one of the globally renowned awards for Mathematics.

The international jury, headed by Prof. Alladi Krishnaswami from the University of Florida, commended SASTRA’s efforts in perpetuating the works of legendary maths genius Srinivasa Ramanujan, including maintaining his house in Kumbakonam as a monument and a museum on Ramanujan at SASTRA’ Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre, the release added.
