A survey of roadside avenue trees within the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) limits has been launched under the project ‘My-Tree’ here on February 4.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to carry out the survey in the city.
The MoU was signed by the Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL), Anand Nagar, Mangaluru, with the offices of the Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru district and the MCC. The Mysore Palace Board has supported the initiative.
Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, MCC Commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif, Trishika Kumari Wadiyar of the erstwhile Mysuru royal family, representatives of CFAL, and officials from the MCC’s Horticulture Department were present during the MoU signing event held at the Mysuru palace.
The MCC has granted permission to CFAL to carry out the survey, which has already commenced in various parts of the city. Trained volunteers and students are conducting the survey and will collect detailed information on each tree, including GPS-based geo-coordinates, species, trunk girth, and estimated height, according to a press release.
The data collected will be compiled into a detailed report and submitted to the MCC. The report is expected to provide information on roadside trees within the city limits and will be useful in planning road-widening projects and other developmental works, the release added.
The MCC has appealed to the public to extend cooperation to volunteers and students engaged in the survey.
