The Department of Studies in Food Science and Nutrition, University of Mysore, in collaboration with the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, University of Mysore, organised a two-day faculty improvement seminar on “Reimagining Nutritional Research: ABCDE and Ethnography as Complementary Approaches” here on Thursday.
The programme was conducted under the aegis of RUSA 2.0 with the objective of strengthening methodological competencies in contemporary nutritional research among faculty members, research scholars, and postgraduate students.
Komala M., chairperson, Department of Studies in Food Science and Nutrition, outlined the theme of the programme and emphasised the need for integrating quantitative nutritional assessment frameworks with qualitative research approaches to address emerging nutrition challenges holistically.
K. Mantelingu, director, College Development Council, University of Mysore, inaugurated the seminar.
In his inaugural address, Prof. Mantelingu underscored the relevance of faculty development initiatives in enhancing research quality and academic excellence. He highlighted the relationship between organic chemistry and food science and nutrition and their application in translational research to improve the overall health status of the population and reduce disease burden, such as obesity, diabetes, and cancer. Prof. Jamuna Prakash emphasised the continued relevance of the ABCDE framework— Anthropometric, Biochemical, Clinical, Dietary, and Ecological assessments—in evaluating nutritional status.
