In a push to streamline the distribution of agricultural inputs, the Union Ministry of Agriculture has rolled out the ‘Framework for Fertiliser Sale (FFS) app’, with Sivaganga and Erode districts chosen as the pilot locations in Tamil Nadu.
The newly implemented digital framework aims to regulate and monitor the sale of subsidised agricultural fertilisers nationwide.
Since the previous week, farmers in the two pilot districts have been able to access the system by downloading the FFS mobile application. Users are required to register using their mobile numbers through an OTP verification process.
For farmers who already possess a Unique Farmer ID, the application automatically displays their registered agricultural land details, making it convenient to select specific crops and corresponding subsidised fertiliser quotas to generate a QR-coded token.
Meanwhile, cultivators without an existing ID must enter their land details manually before a token can be issued.
The application also provides real-time information on local sales centres with available stock, allowing farmers to select their preferred location and complete purchases by scanning their tokens at Point of Sale (PoS) devices.
To ensure seamless accessibility, the administration has introduced flexible provisions allowing farmers who cannot visit in person to authorise a representative to obtain a token using the representative’s identification details.
Similar provisions have been extended to government and temple lands, as well as to lease cultivators.
Individuals requiring assistance with the digital process can approach nearby Common Service Centres or authorised fertiliser retail outlets.
Reviewing the initial rollout, District Collector P. Akash noted that holders of the Unique Farmer ID could navigate the digital registration process seamlessly.
He urged farmers who had not yet obtained their unique identification numbers to contact their respective regional Assistant Director of Agriculture offices promptly.
