Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President P.B. Ahmed Mudassar stated on Tuesday that the new Labour Codes introduced by the Central government mark a watershed moment in India’s reform process, with significant implications for industry, employment, and economic growth.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a one-day seminar on “Understanding the Labour Codes & its Implications – Practical Insights” to transition from the old Labour Laws to the new Labour Codes, jointly organised by the National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), Mangaluru Chapter, and KCCI here.
Mr. Mudassar highlighted that the enthusiasm witnessed among the business and industry community during the rollout of GST is now clearly evident in the response to the newly introduced Labour Code.
Inaugurating the seminar, Capt. Brijesh Chowta, MP for Dakshina Kannada, welcomed the introduction of the new Labour Codes and congratulated NIPM and KCCI for organising the event for the benefit of organisations in the region. He emphasised the importance of effective implementation of the Codes and assured that, in the event of any bottlenecks in their practical application, he would extend full support by taking such issues to the notice of the Central government to streamline the process for the benefit of both employers and employees.
K.S. Prabhoda, chairman, NIPM Mangaluru, said the implementation of Labour Codes will bring in a larger number of workforce under the purview of labour laws, increasing social security for them while promoting ease of doing business.

Gupta, Solicitor and Advocate, Supreme Court, in his address on the topic “Social Security Code and the Code on Wages,” mentioned about eight core principles for effective restructuring of wages. Author and labour law and industry expert N S Govindaraju dealt on occupational safety, health and working condition code and industrial relations code.
