A newborn boy suffering from a critical congenital condition was shifted from the Koppal Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) to Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute (KMCRI) Hospital, Hubballi, under a specially arranged zero-traffic corridor on Sunday to ensure timely life-saving treatment.

The baby was born late on Saturday night at the government hospital in Kuknoor taluk in Koppal district.

The newborn belongs to Mallappa and Vijayalakshmi, residents of Guttur village in Kuknoor taluk.

Doctors noticed that the newborn had severe complications, with the intestines protruding outside the abdominal cavity, necessitating immediate advanced medical intervention.

Following initial stabilisation at the Mother and Child Hospital in Koppal, doctors decided to refer the infant to KMCRI Hubballi for higher treatment. To avoid any delay, the district authorities arranged a zero-traffic corridor with the support of the Police Department.

Five ambulances were deployed to ensure uninterrupted movement, while medical personnel continuously monitored the infant’s condition during transit. Police regulated traffic along key routes to facilitate a smooth and swift passage for the convoy.

However, the newborn’s condition remains critical, while every effort is being made to save his life, sources said.
