Over 850 police personnel have been deployed across Tirunelveli district for the security arrangements on the occasion of Christmas.
As per the orders of Tirunelveli district Superintendent of Police (SP) N. Silambarasan, a total of 883 police personnel, including Additional Superintendents of Police, Deputy Superintendents of Police, Police Inspectors, Sub Inspectors and others, have been deployed across the district, ahead of the festival.
In addition, police have been deployed on a 24 hour rotational patrol with 55 two-wheelers and 34 four-wheelers within all police jurisdictions.
The divisional officers concerned have been instructed to identify violations such as unsafe bursting of firecrackers, public disturbances, drunken driving and especially those involved in bike races and take strict action against them under Motor Vehicles act. Orders have also been given to seize vehicles involved in racing activities.
Security has been further strengthened in areas that have a history of criminal incidents during previous Christmas celebrations.
Mr. Silambarasan has requested the public to extend full cooperation to the police and celebrate the festival peacefully. He warned that any attempt to disrupt the law and order will result in appropriate legal action against those involved.
He also urged the public to report any suspicious persons or activities to the police immediately.
