Silver car of Swami Nellaiyappar Temple will be ready for worship in January first week, says Chief Minister

The new silver car of Nellaiyappar temple here will be ready for worship from January first week, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has said.

Addressing a function at Palayamkottai on Sunday, Mr. Stalin, who inaugurated 33 completed projects worth ₹235.94 crore, said after the silver car of the 7^th century shrine was destroyed in a fire accident in 1991, a proposal for making a new silver car for the temple was put forward by devotees. The new car had been made with silver donated by devotees and would be ready for worship from the first week of January.

Meanwhile, the additional block inaugurated by the Chief Minister on Sunday at the multi-specialty block of Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital has modern facilities for treating heart, neuro, nephro and liver ailments.

Mr. Stalin also laid the foundation for the Quaid-E-Millath Library coming up on three acres of land near the District Industries Centre near Anna Stadium on an outlay of ₹100 crore.

The three-storey facility with five elevators is coming up with 77,586 square feet area including an auditorium with 250 seats, competitive examination section, children’s section with mini theatre, digital library, special reading room for the differently abled, conference hall and a food court. Over a lakh books on a range of topics will be available besides facilities for accessing e-books for the benefit of students from the four southern districts.

The Chief Minister announced that work on renovation on Kanjippaarai check-dam across Alanthuraiyaar in the Western Ghats west of Panagudi and its channels, which were damaged in floods would commence shortly. A check-dam across the Nambiyar and channels would be built at a cost of ₹477 crore to divert the surplus water to Kuttam near Thisaiyanvilai and surrounding areas after getting permission from the Union Government’s Water Resources Authority.

A detailed project report on taking water to 46 irrigation tanks under Nanguneri Periyakulam after widening the Nangunerian Channel had been prepared. Restoration of Kangeyan Channel and Vellodai near Cheranmahadevi and Valliyooran Channel and Valliyoor Periyakulam would be taken up, said Mr. Stalin, who flagged-off 15 new buses on the occasion.
