A trial court on Monday (February 2) found the accused guilty in the murder of a youth from Chalad near Payyambalam beach in Kannur. The case was heard by the Second Additional District and Sessions Court, Thalassery, which will pronounce the sentence on February 4.
The incident occurred after midnight on December 13, 2018. The victim was identified as P.M. Shaiju, 41, of Chalad. The accused, M.V. Sreeguru, 44, a native of Vypin in Ernakulam district, was working as a site caretaker at Payyambalam at the time of the incident. Both the accused and the deceased were staying at a shed at Payyambalam.
The investigation was initially conducted by police officer T.K. Ratnakumar and later completed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Pradeepan Kannipoyil, who filed the chargesheet. Several witnesses, including police officers, doctors, scientific experts, corporation staff and revenue officials, were examined by the prosecution.
