People blocked officials who arrived to close down a post office here at Manamadurai on Tuesday.
A post office has been functioning for 40 years at Kannar Street in Manamadurai.
Around 2,500 people hold accounts there. Numerous individuals receive their Magalir Urimai Thogai, old age pensions, and disability pensions through this branch. In this situation, officials arrived to close the post office based on the orders they received from their higher officials.
Upon learning about this, the locals protested the closure and blocked the officials. Manamadurai MLA D. Ilangovan, who arrived at the spot, held talks with both sides.
Following this, the postal department officials left the spot without closing it down. MLA Ilangovan informed the people that he would speak with higher officials of the postal department and take steps to ensure that the post office continues to function. Following this, the residents dispersed.
