The chief priest of the Srimukhalingam temple Naidugari Rajasekhar has urged the Union and State governments to take up the development of the one of the oldest Lord Shiva temple located in Srimukhalingam village of Srikakulam district.
Mr Rajasekhar staged a two-day protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Sunday and Monday, and appealed to the government to sanction funds for the development of the temple surroundings. His demands include the development of connecting roads, underground drainage system, street lights, cottages near temple, and dedicated staff for maintenance of the temple.
Mr. Rajasekhar said that developing Srimukhlaingam as a model village would attract more pilgrims and tourist from across the country. He also urged the government to initiate steps for obtaining UNESCO recognition for the temple believed to have been constructed 1,500 years ago in the district.
