A rally will be held in Bengaluru on December 21 to urge the government to include Koli, Kabbaliga and their alternate castes under the Scheduled Tribes category, national executive member of the Kabbaliga community association Dattatraya Reddy has said.
Addressing a press conference in Yadgir on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy said that Koli, Kabbaliga, Ambiga, Bestar, Barikera are similar caste names/words that are used among the Kabbaliga, Koli community.
“People from these caste groups have been struggling for Scheduled Tribes tag for many years now. The State government sent a proposal to the Centre for further action. However, no action has been taken so far,” he said.
“The national forum of the community will strongly urge the governments during the Bengaluru rally to fulfil the long-pending demand,” he added.
Forum members Umesh Mudnal, T.D. Raju and others were present.
