A complex hybrid procedure for chronic Type B Aortic Dissection was performed by doctors at Apollo Hospitals, in Visakhapatnam, making it the first such procedure to be done in the city.

A 43-year-old male patient, with a known history of hypertension, had presented with Type A Aortic Dissection, a life-threatening condition involving a tear in the inner wall of the aorta. At that time, he underwent the David Procedure, in which the aortic root was replaced while preserving his native aortic valve.
