The replacement of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) with the Viksit Bharat- Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill 2025 in Parliament was a deplorable act by the BJP Government, Senior leader of CPI and Tiruppur Lok Sabha MP K. Subbarayan said on Friday.
It was improper to rename MGNREGA under any circumstance. In fact, the scheme must be strengthened with 200-day work for a year, and daily wage of ₹700, Mr. Subbarayan told mediapersons.
Hindutva, he contended, has percolated into various departments including the arenas of Justice and Education. In a country with diversity in population, the BJP Government was targeting minorities, he charged.
On the garbage crisis confronting Tiruppur City Corporation, Mr. Subbarayan said the CPI and CPI (M) will hold a demonstration on December 29 demanding remedial measures.
The carbon sequestration initiative undertaken in Varanasi must be replicated in Tiruppur City, he insisted.
The protest by the public demanding a halt to safeguarding their localities from air and environment pollution was justified. Those arrested for taking part in protests demanding remedial measures must be let on bail immediately, he added.
Former president of T.N. BJP K. Annamalai must prove his charge that Tiruppur Corporation Mayor N. Dinesh Kumar was greasing the palms of the councillors with monthly commission of ₹50,000 each for silencing them on the garbage issue, Mr. Subbarayan emphasised.
