The Tamil Nadu Cauvery Farmers Protection Association has sought the inclusion of farmers representatives in the State-level technical committee that fixes the scale of finance for crop loans and working capital assistance in agriculture sector.
In a statement on Wednesday, association secretary Sundara Vimalanathan said though the views and requirements of farmers were heard through their representatives at district-level committees for fixation of scale of finance for crop loans, final decisions were taken at the State-level committees comprising government officials and experts from agriculture institutions.
Every year, the expectations of farmers on a fair and affordable scale of finance commensurate to inflation are not met. Hence, in order to present and substantiate the views and requirements of farmers, the State committee should be reorganised in such a way that farmers’ representatives were also taken on board at the final discussion table where the scale of finance was fixed, he added.
