Residents of Pachapalikadu in Komarayanur village, Anthiyur taluk, blocked the Chennampatti–Kolathur road, for about three hours on Wednesday (September 23, 2026), seeking compensation after a leopard entered a goat shed and killed three goats.
According to the residents, the leopard entered the shed of a farm owned by A. Sathyaraj and A. Dhanapal on Tuesday night (September 22, 2026) and killed three of the 15 goats kept there. They raised an alarm and chased it away.
The incident triggered a road blockade, with the residents demanding immediate action to prevent further leopard attacks and compensation for the goats killed. They said they have been informing Forest Department officials about the movement of a leopard in the area for the past two months, but alleged that no effective action was taken. They also claimed that the leopard had killed several cattle in the area and that the affected farmers had not received compensation.
The Vellithiruppur police, Chennampatti Forest Range officials and Revenue Department officials from Anthiyur held talks with the protesters. The officials assured them that forest staff would intensify patrolling, monitor the leopard’s movement and take steps to capture it. Following the assurance, the residents withdrew the road blockade.
