State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Chairperson Alexander Thomas has directed the authorities to find a permanent solution to the damage on the approach road and side railings of the bridge across the Thevara-Perandoor Canal near the Kochi metro station at Kadavanthra.

The order was issued after the Commission took suo motu cognisance of media reports referring to the damage caused to the approach road and the railings. The Kochi Corporation secretary said the safety issues had been addressed by setting up fencing using galvanised iron and pipe based on the interim order issued by the Commission on March 3, according to a communication.

The report by the Corporation secretary said that an estimate to the tune of ₹11.42 crore had been submitted for approval to renovate the stretch between Vyttila Junction and Manorama Junction along Sahodaran Ayyappan Road (S.A. Road) using Bituminous Macadam and Bituminous Concrete (BM and BC) aimed at ensuring smooth and accident-free travel.

The report said an estimate of ₹10 lakh had been submitted for approval to repair the damaged railings of the bridge over the canal. The Commission accepted the report, said the release.
