Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty on Monday inaugurated the State-level distribution of advanced robotics kits, marking a milestone in making robotics education more advanced across public schools.
The project, implemented by Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), the technology wing of the State’s General Education department, will provide these advanced kits to all high schools.
The Minister officially launched the programme by presenting the kits to Little KITEs IT Club members from six schools in Thiruvananthapuram. A total of 2,500 advanced robotics kits are being deployed through the school-based Little KITEs units.
KITE had previously provided 29,000 robotics kits to schools across the State. With the inclusion of robotics in the Class X ICT curriculum from this academic year, over four lakh students are already directly benefiting from this training. As a continuation of this innovative educational approach, these new advanced kits are being distributed to empower students to build IoT (Internet of Things)-based devices.
Mastering IoT and AI
“These kits are designed to help our students transition from basic automation to mastering IoT and real-world AI applications, fostering a culture of innovation in schools,” K. Anvar Sadath, chief executive officer of KITE, said in a statement.
The primary component of the new kit is an ESP32-based development board equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity to facilitate IoT systems. It also includes an extensive range of sensors, such as ultrasonic distance, soil moisture, PIR motion, and line-tracking sensors. Additionally, the kit features a 4WD smart car chassis, a submersible mini water pump, and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, enabling students to independently create diverse projects.
These kits will help students build complex projects such as line-following robots, automatic plant watering systems, motion-sensing security alarms, smart walking sticks for the visually impaired, air quality monitoring systems, and smart weather stations. Along with project development, students will learn about electronic circuits and get practical experience in programming languages such as Block Coding, Python, and C.

The distribution of kits to all schools will be completed during the Little KITEs district camps scheduled for February 7 and 8.
