Five students who are staying in a sports hostel run by the Sports Development of Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) fell ill after eating chicken served at the hostel on Tuesday (January 20, 2026).
A total of 61 girl students are residing at the sports hostel and are studying at various government schools in the district. On Monday night (January 19, 2026), chicken was provided as dinner to the students. On Tuesday, five students aged 14 to 17 who came to the Namakkal government girls’ higher secondary school from the hostel fell ill.
The teachers took the students and admitted them to Namakkal Government Hospital. The Food Safety Department officials inspected the hostel kitchen and took food samples from the hostel. The Health Department is also inquiring into the incident.
