South Central Railway (SCR) workers take up electrification works on the lines between Vijayawada and Kazipet Junction on the Andhra-Telangana border area.

The South Central Railway (SCR) has fast-tracked 18 key infrastructure projects across Telangana and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, covering a total distance of 1,763.26 km at an estimated cost of ₹27,342.44 crore.
The projects include new railway lines, doubling and tripling works, and a few major capacity-enhancement works. A recently sanctioned fourth line on the Secunderabad-Wadi section, along with a third-line expansion covering 173.40 km, has been approved at a cost of ₹5,012 crore, according to official sources.
One of the most expensive works under execution is the Mudkhed-Dhone line, including the Dhone bypass with electrification, spanning 417.88-km at a cost of ₹4,686.09 crore. Works on about 17-km between Basar and Navipet has been completed. Of this stretch, 292-km falls within Telangana (Fakrabad-Bolarum and Mahabubnagar-Kurnool sections).
Work is also underway on a new 173.61 km line between Pandurangapuram at a cost of ₹3,591.76 crore. Another major project is the third line between Kazipet and Vijayawada, covering 219.64-km at a cost of ₹3,103.99 crore. About 195-km has already been completed, with the remaining 25-km between Dornakal and Mahabubabad nearing completion.
This is followed by the 201.04-km third line with electrification between Kazipet and Balharshah, costing ₹2,909.89 crore. About 183-km has been completed; only 19 km between Bellampalli-Mandamarri and Asifabad-Sirpur Khagaznagar remains to be finished.
On the 151.36-km Manoharabad-Kothapalli new line, estimated at ₹2,780.78 crore, around 76-km between Manoharabad and Siddipet has been completed. Work on the 56.53-km Errupalem-Namburu (via Amaravati) new line, costing ₹2,047.40 crore, is pending land acquisition, with just 5-km falling in Telangana.
The 239-km Bibinagar-Guntur double line with electrification, costing ₹2,480 crore (including 139-km in Andhra Pradesh), is currently under the tendering process. The 99.68-km Motumari-Vishnupuram double line, which includes a rail-on-rail bridge at Motumari and costs ₹1,595.55 crore, spans both Telugu States. Land acquisition is in progress.
The 54.65-km Bhadrachalam Road -Dornakal double line project (₹770.12 crore) is also at the land acquisition stage. The 33-km MMTS Phase II extension to Yadadri, costing ₹412.26 crore and being taken up fully by the Railways, is expected to begin soon as land acquisition has been completed.
Other works under execution include: 10.50-km RoR at Dornakal worth ₹320.47 crore; 8.54-km RoR at Pagidipalli costing ₹263.89 crore; 24.55-km bypass between Nashkal-Hasanparti worth ₹465 crore; 1.55-km bypass at Nizamabad at a cost of ₹124.20 crore; 2.80-km bypass at Vikarabad worth ₹46.37 crore; 4.90-km bypass at Vishnupuram at a cost of ₹110.89 crore while the ₹35.64 crore ‘Y’connectivity at Tandur is nearing completion.
