A 60-year-old patient, who suffered from dangerously low heart rate due to atrioventricular (AV) block, received a true dual-chamber leadless pacemaker in a minimally invasive procedure at MGM Healthcare recently.
According to a press release, this was a rare and high-risk electrical conduction disorder of the heart. Following comprehensive evaluation, he was diagnosed with second-degree AV block, Mobitz type II, a condition in which electrical impulses fail to conduct properly from the atria to the ventricles of the heart.
He was supported with a temporary pacemaker for stabilisation, before implantation of the advanced pacemaker.
