Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y.S. Sharmila on Saturday accused the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre of undermining democracy through alleged wrongful deletion of voters’ names during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

She was placed under house arrest at her residence in Gannavaram and was prevented by the police from leaving to participate in her party’s ‘Chalo Lok Bhavan’ protest, which called for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). Subsequently, Ms. Sharmila staged a dharna by squatting on the road.

“Modi means ‘Murderer of Democratic India’,” she said, criticising the alleged irregularities in the voter revision process.

Ms. Sharmila appealed to the people of Delhi to file Form 7, seeking deletion of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s vote, to make him understand the distress of voters whose names were removed without their knowledge.
